What’s with the name?

I was talking with someone the other day about how I chose the name for my company and why we went with this logo and I realized I haven’t shared it widely yet. Figured it was a perfect Friday afternoon to share it with all of you!

First of all, let me be clear: While I always knew I wanted to work in nonprofit consulting, I wasn’t exactly planning to do it this year. I value stability a lot, and I carried all of the benefits for our family, so jumping into the world of self-employment felt like it would be a long way off yet.

However, at the beginning of the year, I started talking with my husband, some mentors, and those closest to me about where I was at in my life and career. Over and over, I found myself saying, “I feel like it’s just time to take the leap…”

And thus, LEAP Nonprofit Consulting was born.

We all know that the nonprofit field loves a good acronym so if you go to my services page, you’ll see that LEAP stands for Leadership, Engagement, Accountability and Philanthropy - all of the things that I wanted to help small nonprofits bring to the center of their work.

But more than that, I wanted to help inspire organizations to take their own leap…

Far too often, organizations aren’t willing to try something transformational because they’re afraid of failing. And that’s a real fear. If you’re a struggling organization, or you’re serving a vulnerable population, failure may not be an option.

But if you’re constantly playing it safe, repeating the same stuff that you know is only sort of working, or even unwilling to think about a different way of doing something, you’re leaving money on the table and minimizing your impact.

When I work with clients, I provide behind-the-scenes support and structure to help them operationalize new or improved processes. I share my expertise in fundraising to help my clients ask for bigger gifts and achieve stretch goals. I help you build confidence so that taking the leap doesn’t feel so scary.

I’m working with organizations that are in the middle of the biggest fundraising projects they’ve ever dreamed of.

I’m coaching fundraisers who are taking a professional leap from more transactional fundraising to having transformational conversations with donors.

I’m digging into data and operations and helping organizations make decisions about how they move toward their vision for the future.

I’m helping all of my clients take a leap from where they are to where they want to be. Just like I needed to do for myself.

When I officially decided to take my own leap of faith six months ago, I was honestly terrified. But what started as just a name for a company, has already become a marching order for me personally and the organizations I work with. And I’m so proud of the work we’re doing together through this new company!

Coming soon… “What’s with the fox?” Because after “Why LEAP?” that’s the question I get most often!
